GOODBYE!

I'm out of here! I just don't get enough responses to keep a daily blog going! I went to a lot of trouble to put up something decent last night and by mid-afternoon I got only four replies. Four! Man, you guys are hard to please! "Today-I-clipped-my-toenails"-type blogs get more than that. I'm gonna book!
Thanks to all the regulars whose kind letters kept this going for 520 posts. Sorry I had to delete the post containing your current comments in order to put this up. They were all very, very much appreciated. I have a feeling most of us will meet sometime in the future! For now, so long!

152 comments:

  1. I bet you get more comments than ever for this one post.

You've told me at least 40 more great ideas for posts, so you better finish those first!

  2. Damn, I don't know how the hell these blogs work.

I love reading your blog, but if I check out the comments and someone has already said something to the effect of "Right on Eddie!" or "Oh no you didn't!" or "You so crazy!" I don't want to post a repeat comment.

I just come here to be entertained!!! And learn! and of course laugh! Why do I have to post comments too!!??!?!?!?

    ReplyDelete
  3. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I AM GOING TO CRY UNTIL YOU CHANGE YOUR MIND. Seriously. When I see you on Friday my eyes will be sore and red!!!

    ReplyDelete
  4. I swear to you- if you installed a counter- you'd know that EVERYEONE reads your blog. Most people don't comment! Most people are shy, or have nothing to say, or someone already said it!!!

    ReplyDelete
  5. nah, you shouldn't go. Your blog posts are really interesting and out there, I especially like your photo comics. and though I don't ever comment I hardly have anything constructive to say most of the time, like rob said, whats the point of leaving a comment like "nice post" etc, when there is already a number of them before me saying the same thing. You should keep posting all your stories and ideas here, they are very entertaining.

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Eddie, while I certainly can't tell you how to spend your time, I can tell you two things:
    1) I haven't left comments because I'm averse to saying something so sycophantic that you'd deem it unmanly. You really can't gauge your readership by the chatter in the comments section. Animators, remember, are weirdo hidden grunting loners.
    2) I've got a lot of webpage bookmarks (I dunno... 40?), ranked more or less in order of how much I like 'em. Yours is #2, ahead of any other animator's, because you think about stuff like architecture and boobs.
So I hope you don't quit.

  7. What?!!!

I'll reply sometimes from now on Eddie, I swear! Don't think that everyone who reads replies, there must be many others like myself. Please don't quit! Your pictures and stories are hilarious and informative!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Hey Eddie! Boy I sure hope you dont stop blogging..I come here everyday but dont always post a comment. Im sure there are tons of more people like myself who do the same.. You and John have, in my opinion, the best blogs out there..

    ReplyDelete
  9. Mr. Eddie!

I love your blog, I promised myself to read all the previous posts before I started reading it some months ago. I've only commented one time, but I always read it!

There's always something to learn, your post about sketching people in conversation changed my perspective in sketching! :D

  10. Arrgh! You can't quit now Uncle Eddie! Yeah, I was one of the handful of respondees to the post you went and took down, because I thought it was really a funny photo essay. Honestly, Eddie, your blog is on my daily read list precisely because of the whimsical wacky humour you're blessed with. I hope you'll reconsider and keep the theories spewing forth from your cross-eyed view of the world. We need more Uncle Eddies to help us slog through the insanity of modern life! If posting daily is proving to be too much of a burden, we'll gladly take what we can get whenever the muse whacks ya' on your pointy head.

  11. I check this blog every day eddie, it's one of my favorite sites to visit. I don't always comment but I love it and always refer friends to it!

    Bye bye!

  12. PS: If the Theory Mansion does end up having an estate sale, please put me down for a half dozen of those curvaceous PhilosoPets. I 'd like to indulge in some deep thinking with those gals...

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'm just a reader too. I guess you're fishing for comments but I'll bite. You shouldn't have to measure your enthusiasm for a blog just on the amount of the replies (which makes me doubt your motivation for this blog!). Register to feedburner.com and follow the instructions on there to see how many people subscribe to the RSS feed as well. Might be more than you think...

I'd just like to say, at times I don't necessarily agree with what you or John K say on your respective blogs but I still enjoy reading them and getting different view points and ideas about stuff. Diversity and variety are king!

    ReplyDelete
  14. if this isn't a joke....

Maybe you should look at your Hit Counter not comments if you feel unloved! I think your posts deserve my quality comments not quantity: I rather give a good, well thought-out one than "Me like this post"

Your blog is super popular and I am very proud to be your friend! Don't go away!!!!!

I can understand where you are coming from, and it's your choice all together. I had learned alot from the post that you've written in the past year, and it's a shame that you have called it quits. I wish you all the luck for the future, and maybe I might get to meet you in person, one of these days.

  16. I think you'll be right John.

Damn, Eddie. I'm sorry about how it turned out. You sure as hell did put up a great blog! Always a great mix of intellect and fun. I've copied several of your posts. I think I'll go back and catalog more of them.

I like John's idea though. I do wish you'd do a final season and give us a big finale. But you work real hard and there's other things I bet you would like to do.

You're one hell of a guy. Thanks for all your hard work.

    yer, pal. Micah.

  17. Eddie... Uncle Eddie please don't go. :(

  18. I'll miss you Eddie and your wonderful theories. I really mean that.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I don't really comment very often on your blog, but I want you to know that it's been incredibly helpful to me as an aspiring animator. It's generally the first blog I visit during my day of internet travels, as I know that you almost always have an update ready.

And John's right, if nothing else there's a few threads you haven't tied up as far as returning segments go. Also, you always have the best photographs to back up your theories and essays. I must have tons of that stuff stored on my computer somewhere.

If you are going, then you will be missed!

  22. I have read your blog everyday, sorry I wasnt the 2 cent worth type you needed. I will miss it very much. Cheers Mate from Australia.

  23. Alright, I confess, I've been reading for awhile, but never commented. I know I shouldn't of, but... but... I have no excuse. Sorry. I'll participate in class, I promise. Tell us another story Uncle Eddie.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Arrrghh! please don't go! Sometimes life gets in the way of the internet and I can't check back every day, doesn't mean I don't read and appreciate it! Boooo! I'm really sad to see you go. :(. Please don't!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Anonymous10:58 PM

    Arrrgggg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll post everyday if it makes a difference!!!!!

Eddie, you're site is the first and last that I check everyday. I only post if I have the time, or more importantly, if I feel that I have something useful to offer. I really try to avoid being another rambling internet moron at all cost. But for you I'll do it... damn it!

It's selfish of me to expect you to do a daily blog if your hearts not in it, but I'm sure there are a lot of folks out there like me who never post - but completely love this site. Maybe you could do a post every other day, or perhaps once a week?

    Just don't give up totally!

    Please?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Uncle Eddie, please come home! I'll comment more often, I promise!

I'm sure a ton of people visit and enjoy what they see, they just don't have the time to comment, are afraid of looking stupid or sycophantic, or someone else already said what they wanted to say! I check your blog every day, and it's one of the few things that keeps me hobbling around on this small, rocky planet!

Even so, your average of 20-40 comments per post is better than 99% of blogs out there, both in number and in quality!

But, if you're still feeling unappreciated, get thee a hit counter! You'll see how ridiculously popular you really are, Uncle Eddie!

I don't wanna leave Uncle Eddie's Fantasy Island just yet!

    Eddie!
I don't really know how Blogger is set up, but you should look at your "Hits" or "Visits" in whatever kind of Reports that they do offer.

This will give you a better idea of how much traffic that your site is actually getting.

Comments are no way to judge traffic!

I would like to add that I clipped your Animation Nation "Viewpoint" article "A Better Way To Go" years ago when it first came out, and I can not even begin to tell you how many times I have read it over the years for inspiration.

It seems somehow cruel for you to deny a new generation of would be cartoonist your unique perspective.

Is that the kind of Uncle you are?

    A CRUEL one?

    Shame.

    Your fan,
    James.

  29. Uncle Eddie! If it wasn't for this blog I would have never met you in person!!

but really, just because everyone doesn't post a comment doesn't mean they aren't reading. I don't have enough interesting things to say in order to comment on every blog, but you can bet your buns that I read them daily!

if you decide to stay, thank you for listening. if not, then thank you for 520 posts of fun. :( and i hope to see you next time i visit!

  31. The title of this post is misleading, this bye is not good at all. I read your blog every day Eddie.
With the knowledge you have given. Someday, I dream to create a animated movie, where Lord of the Rings style it will be dark and raining and up in the hills will be thousands of cartoony hairy men covered in barnacles and body hair playing their noses like musical instruments until the time they must battle crazy horses wearing Justice Friends pajamas and tube socks which possess the powers of Cuba Gooding Jr.

Knowing this, how does it make you feel? How does it make your nose feel? Do you have Justice Friends pajamas? If you don't continue posting how will people know?!

    ...We can work this out.

...I can change... I can be better.

    Don't leave. Not yet.

    (End Scene)

That's THREE post! SEE... I'm a team player. Just let us know what you want.

I feel like this is like that old Beatles story where Ringo quit because he felt unloved, like somehow he was the outsider, set apart from the other three.

When he went up to tell each of the other guys why he was leaving, they all responed "I thought it was YOU three" that where close.

In the end they all told him how much they loved him, and everything was good again.

And as we all know, they lived happily ever after... recording Beatles records until the end of time!

I'm taking my ball and going too!!! Wahhhh!!!!

Since I have followed your blog daily for nearly 6 months now, you have become a strong source of influence. I can now add this to my long list of things learned from Uncle Eddie: "when the going gets tough... the tough quit."
In fact, I am quiting everything in life that doesnt go my way or as I want as well. Thanks for teaching all us impressionable fans this and leading by example by showing how to do things the Eddie way.
    Pfffffff! *kicks the dirt*

  34. Oh no! Please stick around. Your insights are always appreciated and thoughtfully considered, even if we don't comment. I mean, where else could we find creepy Hallowe'en tales, meditations on Neapolitan hand gestures, and revelations about the similarities between ballet and animation all posted within two or three week period?

Your blog is one of the few that I read every single post of. Don't give up now, Eddie!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Just because people don't comment doesn't mean they're not reading!

I don't comment unless I have something to say besides "I liked reading this post." Yet I enjoy reading your posts, whether I have an intelligent response or not. Come on, Eddie, don't give up!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Dear Uncle Eddy,
Have you been too busy to sit in the theory chair lately? Because if you were to just sit in your theory chair again for a little while and take a deep, slow breathe, then I bet the theories would come back. They would start to emerge again, from left and from right and from out of nowhere, and you would be powerless to do anything except shout out all the theories as fast as they came. Then beckoned by the muse, but not wanting to wake your family, you'd be forced back to your keyboard, posting all night and into the morning.

Go ahead, Eddie. The theory chair is right there, in the next room. Waiting for you. Sit down. Relax...

    ReplyDelete
  37. NO DON'T DO IT! This is like one of the must read blogs of the day for me and even though I might not comment, it doesn't mean I'm not reading and LOVING it!

Why cruel fate! Why harsh and unforgiving world! Oh capricious destruction, are there no hallowed places safe from your howling winds? Your beating waves? Your ravages of unforgiving nature who would thwart the hand of man wherever he seeks to make anything which is good and lasting?

    I need a comfort muffin...

    ReplyDelete
  38. DONT GO! UNCLE EDDIIIIIEEEEEEE!!!!! WE NEED YOUR INSIGHT AND WIT TO GUIDE US THROUGH THESE DARK TIMES!

seriously, just because people don't post doesn't mean they don't read and LISTEN to you! maybe their keyboards are broken...or they were too struck by your post that they haven't had enough time to absorb the information enough to even think about posting because of its all being jammed into their heads with a nail gun or something...

  48. Eddie, I look at your blog eveyday and laugh at everything. Just because I don't comment everytime doesn't mean I don't like your blog. I don't have anything insightful to say in comments if I just got a good hearty laugh out of your posts!

Do you comment every blog you read? Probably not!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Eddie! Don't go! We need you! Check your site meter - you're getting lots of hits.

Sometimes people don't comment because they're in awe of your brilliance - and anything they'd write would be like drawing a moustache on the Mona Lisa.

On behalf of art lovers everywhere, Eddie - please stay!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Oh. And if you do decide to go, put me down for a couple of those philosophy chicks. I got dibs on the redheads - Emslie can have the rest.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Please reconsider Eddie! This is one of the few websites I check every day. All the other comments have already covered why people don't comment as frequently.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Geez, Eddie!
Perhaps it will comfort you that you're being read in Argentina, and I've passed your blog's URL to several friends I have in Australia, Italy, Portugal and that weird country in the North American continent. No, not the Canadians or Mexicans.
Another thing that happened to me sometimes, is that I try to post something, place the sort "password" to enter the message and it just bounces and deletes my well thought message. That infuriates me and have to destroy the computer, right away. Your blog has costed me quite a lot of money.
But anyway, keep writing Eddie. I'm not an animator but I enjoy it a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Oops, and I forgot to add that thanks to your blog I met the talented and beautiful Kali, Marlo and Katie.

Please don't go Eddie... I'm sorry I never comment... I just never have anything to say. Just because I don't comment doesn't mean I don't love you.

This is the worst news I've heard since they... well since ever. Hey no one comments on my blog either... but I'm a snotty little punk with nothing to say. Don't leave us Eddie... pretty please?

  57. This is only blog I look forward to reading every day. Sometimes your comments are so funny I'll come back several times a day. It's frustrating having a blog and never getting comments; believe me, I know. But that's the way it is. Most people don't leave comments. I get about 200-300 hits a day but am pleased when 2 people comment. It'll be a hard adjustment for me to get along without your daily posts.

I reckon the same applies the blogs.

Eddie, I've never left comments, but your posts are one of my favorite parts of the day.

Thanks for all the time you've put in entertaining us.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Uncle Eddie, if you really go, I'm going to hop on the first plane to Los Angeles and beat you with a wet spaghetti noodle! :)

Seriously, I think that your blog is one of the most entertaining and informative blogs that I've ever read.

I learn so much from your posts, especially about your posts on art. Your blog has introduced me to artists and styles that I've never been exposed to. True story - one time you posted an analysis on certain paintings, and I made a comment on one of the paintings. I'm not sure if you knew this, but the daughter of one of the artists that you posted about was reading your post. She sent me a really nice letter thanking me for the comments that I posted on your blog about her father's artwork.

Your stories also make me laugh and feel better. I love coming to your blog during breaks at work because my mind gets so fried from coming up with the most efficient technical solution to a group's business problems while still managing to come up with a user interface design that will be visually appealing. I also love to read your stories to cheer me up when I'm feeling blue. Your hilarious postings, especially those Halloween stories, have really helped me through a tough time lately.

I am truly serious when I tell you that a magazine like New Yorker should be knocking on your door and begging you to write for their magazine. Your writing is that damn good. It's intelligent but not pretentious.

If you want to finish posting on the blog, I understand. However, I hope that you reconsider. Even if you don't post daily, that's fine, too. I always choose quality over quantity. :)

Nooooooo! Says it ain't so Uncle Eddie! Say it ain't so!

Was it because I didn't comment when you posted? I swear I read your blog EVERY goddamned day! Just because I don't say nothin' don't mean I'm not listening.

Is it because I was looking at John K.'s blog too much? It was only that one time when you said to read his post about art school. And then the one about drawing toys.

. . . And then that other one a few weeks ago.

    THAT'S NOT THE POINT.

Point is I get such insight outa you. And naked chicks. But your more than naked chicks. You're like . . . Naked chicks . . . Ice cream . . . Flowers . . . Candy . . . And Immanuel Kant in one sagely package with perfume and chocolates and beer.

Just because I don't say nothing 'bout your hair after you get it done don't mean I don't notice it. It's very nice. And modern. You obviously put a lot of time into it.

Tell ya what, how 'bout dinner and a movie just the two of us at your favorite sushi restaurant and we'll work out all this "I'm deleting this blog forever cause no one appreciates me" garb.

    AND RIGHT BEFORE HALLOWEEN?! HERETIC!

. . . I didn't mean that Eddie. I just get so upset sometimes that your blog won't be around no more.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Eddie your posts are mainly declarative sentence type posts, or they are so far beyond the majority of your readers in perception or skill that even when you solicite replies or discussion, a lot of readers may feel unqualified to comment with anything besides I agree or somesuch.

So, it sucks your ending it, but hey if you dont get anything out of it but a drain, then thats the way it goes.

Please dont delete any posts, cuz I just got here about 6 weeks ago and still have much reading to do, but what I have done so far has been very enriching and entertaining.

    Thanks

Hey man, you have an army of folks in Denver that regularly check your blog out because this is some of the most vital discourse on issues that are key to our endeavors as fine artists available on the web.
It would be an unforgivable crime against humanity to silence your public voice. Straight out of college, the biggest missing is a community that generates vibrant dialogue. I thank you for spurring that on in my neck of the woods...

Did the young Athenians sitting at Socrates' feet chime in on every statement?

Did the apostles correct Christ's pop-culture references?

Did Benjamin Franklin's printing assistant reframe the brilliant "Poor Richard's" sayings and repeat them back to the esteemed early American?

    Nay.

How can you expect us, your devoted readers, to treat you any different?

    Dear Uncle Eddie,
please don't say Goodbye yet! I am writing from Berlin and have been reading your blog since april, when I discovered it and spent several evenings in a row perusing all the previous entries.
Your blog is compelling. A favorite of mine was the post about the rooftops of Paris. All those interesting posts about architecture. Your critique of the buildings by Hundertwasser was great. Your beautiful drawings. All that incredibly varied subject matter. The post on Wolverton yesterday was very poetic: I copied some of it from the screen into my little notebook, because it had interesting vocabulary in it. This is another reason why your blog is great: It helps me to improve my English. If only I had known that you were in desperate need of approval and response, I would have posted a comment right away.
I have never yet commented on any blog until now, but if I can help to keep you going, I will comment from time to time. Please give it a second thought!

    Eddie, Whatcha doin' man?

Your blog is the only one I read on a daily basis, sometimes I think it's my only link to a saner, happier world.

I know I don't write as often as I should, especially regarding the more highfalutin' topics, but if you had a special microphone hooked up to my computer (and who's to say you don't)you'd hear my head rattling in agreement most of time.

If I don't respond it's because you already made a point or someone else's' comment has already expressed my opinion and I'm reluctant to throw in a "ditto" just for the sake of seeing my name on a message board. But on those few occasions when I actually did have something to say, you were always kind enough to respond, and for that I thank you.

I'm beggin' you not to chuck it just yet. Take some time off if you need it. Rerun a few "Best Ofs", like Carson used to do. Bring some guest Theorizers, take some time to recharge, but don't give up, we're out here, we're reading, and we'll miss you.

  75. No! This is horrible horrible news! Why must it be illustrated with my favorite white-suited 1970s television big man little man pair?

Not only are we losing this blog but now I can't even watch "Fantasy Island" reruns without misting up and babbling about all the good times I had here in the Theory Corner... like a common drunk on a crying jag.

    A common drunk! Me!

    Reconsider, Mr. Uncle Eddie, please!

  76. For whatever this information might be worth, I can tell you that my hit counter indicates that I get fifty to eighty times as many "visits" as I get comments. If I thought that comments are an accurate indicator of level of interest, I would have quit doing my own blog over a year ago! ... But only you can decide what is worth your time. Good luck to you, my animation aesthetics guru!

    ReplyDelete
  77. i really don't get it, everyone loves your blog, it's popular as hell. I read every single post. Listen to Kali, most people simply don't comment! But maybe you're right about it being daily. It must be a hell of trouble. What if you put more time between the posts? That way you wouldn't need to rush them and people would have more time to comment before a new one showing up. A lot of people only look at the latest post, really. Sometimes i come here and i see you put like 3 new posts. I read them all, but of course i won't comment on each one of them.
Think it over, Eddie. Don't take such a drastic measure, please! You don't need to stop altogether, just slow down a bit if it will make it easier for you! We love you!

  79. Uncle Eddie, people on the internet usually only comment when they want to complain! This blog is brilliant and helps me make my weak brain strong like lion. I don't want nailing wood panelling and animal heads up around my home to have been in vain. I TRIED TO LIVE THE EDDIE WAY.

If you stop posting I hope someone will rent a church basement and us all down.

    Hells Bells!
I too read this every day, but don't necessarily comment (I tried a couple of days ago but it never showed up) but a lot of the time others have said what I wanted to say, or I read back what I've written and think "Pshhhhh, what a load of gobbledegook!"
This is the first one that's made it past my fascistic self-censor. And it's not even about anything - it's about NOT writing comments!
Anyway man - hope you reconsider.

  85. Hi Eddie,

I have been searching high and low looking for your email address. I read your blog EVERYDAY ... I rearranged my bookmarks in Safari so that your blog what number one on my list. John K is now number 2. I only discovered his fantastic blog through yours. Cartoon Brew is now number 3.

I could NOT figure out how to respond to you through your blog. I do not know how to put up a blog ... I don't have a website, and I don't know how to chat. I'm sending you this message from my wife's account. Somehow, like magic, today, I found the teeny tiny comment button on your page.

I apologize for not getting technical assistance earlier to thank you before this.

I work as an animator for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation - mainly doing Sesame Street items. I have never worked in a studio environment, so I have really appreciated your comments about working in a studio. The other animators and myself also read your blog together in the animation department in Toronto.

I hope you reconsider stopping your blog ... if for nobody else but me !

I am on a one year paternity leave from work ... to make ends meet, I am now doing rental crud for students ... cleaning up after these animals, and doing housework. Once we are settled in this, I can get back to drawing.

Your blog keeps me thinking creatively, - and keeps me focussed on my animation work ... even when I'm doing something totally different. I love the variety of your posts, ... they always give me something to think about.

well I have to go now ...

    Please reconsider.

Holy crap! Now some climbing development exec at Cartoon Network will edit your 520 posts into a "Best of Uncle Eddie's Theory Corner" and ride their published work to a fat promotion. This sort of thing has happened before. I'm not mentioning any names 'cause the cretin is still in power. You gotta beat him or her to the punch, Eddie, and self-publish a definitive hardcopy version of your 520 sweated bullets for upcoming creative souls to savor.

Elation poors through my eyeballs and into my other bodily functions which helps me a) get out of bed entirely b) smile and c) laugh,"haw, haw, haw!"

It used to be so hard to do that before your blog existed, seriously.

  90. Eddie,

This was a truly great virtual salon des artistes.

I'm reminded of a particularly brutal caricature of you by John K. You're looking straight out from the page with the earnest gaze of a seeker of wisdom & truth & from this calm, intelligent center bristle buck teeth, huge jug ears, nosehairs & pimples.

He really succeeded in capturing the inner Eddie; the essential questing intellect integrated with the primal wisdom of a man who laughs from his belly.

Thank you, Eddie. You have more than fulfilled your generational obligation as a master cartoonist. We shall not see the like of this blog again.

    Adieu.

P.S. Say, did you think about putting in a PayPal button?

As someone who simply loves well made animation, sadly, all I have done is diligently read your blog and enjoyed your well thought out, insightful and interesting posts. Also sadly, I have failed to post, I have just enjoyed the heck out of what you had to say and what you put together. It's a tragedy to measure success by comments. Not having ever commented I greatly appreciated each and every post. Thanks!

  99. while i do enjoy your blog and read it a lot. i must say that i can relate to needing more time to do other things. i think, maybe. you shouldnt force yourself to post so frequently. you make posts about being to tired to write something and then apologizing!! thats ridiculous!! i think you have spoiled your readers with so many posts. people will still read if you update twice a week and that might be a lot of burden removed from your shoulders.

But if you feel your blog is more of a hindrance than something FUN then of course you'd want to retire the blogger pen for a while.

If you do decide to go, i hope you spend your non-blogging time on making some awesome cartoons, or coming out with an awesome uncle eddie doodle+theory book that you can sell on amazon and make lots of money. or maybe just even some R&R and peace of mind.

Either way. I hope you are happy in whichever desicion you make.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Eddie, the reason I don't always comment (and presumably, other people) is because you often say it all in the post. Your theories should end more often in "Q.E.D" because there's nothing more to be said on whatever subject you're talking about and not much room to argue, your post are just that brilliant! But I still read every post and treasure it and am saddened by this turn of events.

    Please reconsider!

  106. i'm definitely guilty of daily lurking and not responding as often as i should.. but it'd be sad to see such an interesting and insightful blog disappear simply because people aren't keeping up a dialogue.. i take it you don't get enough personal satisfaction in outlining your thoughts and ideas? i've always felt blogging should be personal first and dialogue second, but if you're really not getting anything out of it, that sucks!

  114. This is going to leave a damn big empty hole in my life. You know what this means right? You are going to have more stalkers than you ever dreamed of. All of them clamoring after you like a zombie horde yelling "Theory! We want more theories! Theory!" Now, do you really want to be responsible for the creation of the Uncle Eddie's Theory Corner Stalker Zombie Horde? I think not! So, you see, it is imperative that you continue on in this interchange of ideas that has become the Theory Corner. Now if you were like a neighbor, I wouldn't care, I would have Uncle Eddie over all the time to share his ideas, watch old movies and discuss acting styles, and quality, draw, so on and so forth, but I you are not my neighbor, so I have to be content with Uncle Eddie's Online Neighborhood. Now you go and take that all away.

Bottom like is, I respect your decision, and wish you the best. I hope to cross paths with you some day. It would be a treat. I would rather not live without your blog, but if that is your final answer, so be it.

  121. Well, someone's certainly in a pissy mood. Going to gather up all your marbles and stay home, eh? We lot can just piss and moan and knock at The Iron Door which shall remainn closeth forevermore, huh? Shame!

I must have missed yesterday's pentultimate post, being out sick yesterday...the one with all the kind comments. Was it a dozy? Or is this the self-same p-post? Anyway, I think the longest I've gone without checking in has been about 3 days. Actually, I've gotten a feeling that you've got some odd beliefs bout this blogging deal: for one, that it has to be updated every. damn. day. Which can get to be an onerous burden for the blogger if he's not feeling the keyboard-mind connection(or something).
But you know, one or two a week isn't shabby. I believe Katie and Marlo, who both have hundreds of people I'm sure check on them daily, only treat us at times to a whopping 2 posts a month! But we in the ether are just happy for whatever crumbs of art or knowledge are hurled in our general direction.

No, not from me the gentle back-patting and ego soothing! Good heavens! Nor shall I figuratively grasp the cuff of your jeans as you drag yourself away from the keyboard bleating(that's me, bleating):"No...NOOOOOOO!". If an average 30 comments a DAY(which is what you get) isn't sufficient to make it feel worthwhile, why should anyone blog? Why should Katie or Marlo or Kali? Even John doesn't always get more comments on every single posting he does, and he is Really World Famous.

I had really hoped for some further Halloween posts from you at least. Damn damn shame, and I'm very annoyed with you. So there!

    ReplyDelete
  136. Hi, Eddie

The main reason I haven't posted comments here lately is because my new job keeps me quite busy. I guess I don't have to tell you how hectic and time consuming that animating can be, especially when those deadlines approach way too quickly.

I'll reiterate what Gemmill said, there's no need to post every day. Hell, Katie Rice goes for months without a post and people still flock to her blog.

Hanging up the IP is a bit overly-dramatic I 'd say. Just post whenever you feel inspired or if you want to give recognition to a special occasion. That's the way I do it.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Anonymous7:22 PM

Don't go, Eddie. Please don't go.

It's been said so many times, but seriously - there's so many of us who enjoy you, but really don't have anything worth saying out of intimidation, shyness, or just being beaten. "HAW HAW" or "I LIKE THIS, YOU WRITE WELL" only go so far. This blog has been a great light in my otherwise dreary life and I've learned so much as a young artist. Now I feel guilty for never asking questions when I had them, out of my own foolish intimidation!

I wish you change your mind, but if not, so be it. I can respect that, but you will be missed. I hope you stop by sometimes, though. There was always something to learn in the Theory Corner.

please continue. I also don't comment more than occasionally, but your blog is one of the best websites I've found across this crazy thing called the internet. I mean sometimes the stories you write are so funny that I keep thinking about them and will interrupt conversations with friends to tell them about your posts. please stay, if not then thanks for the memories.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Actually I got a couple of letters which ran something like, "Nya,nya! I didn't get what I wanted so I'm picking up my toys and going home! What a whiner!" Boy, those were strong words! I picture those guys wearing barbed wire bedroom slippers and brushing their teeth with steak.

I mention this because when the time came to write a sentimental thank-you for the letters I received, I couldn't get the whiner remarks out of my head. When I came to the words "..and from the bottom of my heart.." I pictured those guys writhing in pain at the thought that emos have taken over the world. I persevered through the writing of the thank-you note but all genuine sentiment was ruined by the manly faction. Ah, well.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Eddie (and I'm not doing this to be a psychopant) you should make people pay for your posts. It's all I could say. Otherwise my life will be duller without your posts. You helped a lone artist here in San Jose enjoy life more and appreciate it for what it is.

Unfortunately not all of us are around everyday to read your site either, but we try. Plus sometimes we can't think of stuff to put up w/ out repeating what we already said before. I say this because your commentary deserves fresh new comments baked from the oven and delivered fresh. That is all I have to say.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Anonymous9:51 AM

    Eddie
I was one of those who ridiculed your for the way you left. Dont get me wrong, I love your blog. I just felt that the way you made it sound about how you weren't getting any comments seemed very egotistical and not a very good or valid excuse.
I also used the big studio analogy because it seemed that it applied very well to the criticism you had of not getting enough interest in your posts judging merely from comments. Don't big studios have the same concern of not getting the response of the masses and thus they go for safer watered down cartoons? It seemed that your reasoning was a bit hypocritical and very similar to how big studios operate, which you always diss. You want the masses and ignored the small "niche" market that did comment regularly. What a slap to their faces for even trying.
I wont get into it anymore as its too much writing and is water under the bridge now. I said my peace and respectfully accepted whatever you did and do.
I'm happy your back but I felt I needed to at least give a half-assed reason why I and maybe others felt you were letting your ego run rampant with respect to the number of comments.
It wasnt intended with hate or malice. What did you expect after all the "manliness" theories? You didn't handle it like a man at all...at least not with your reasoning behind it.
    Welcome back!
