HALLOWEEN IS TOMORROW!
What am I doing talking about architecture (yesterday's post) when Halloween is so close? Forgive me! I must have been addled but I think I'm OK now!
Here's (above) a short trailer for the spook shows they used to hold in movie theaters in the 50s. Whatever happened to spook shows!?
Here's a choice 10-minute sequence from the b&w "Raven," my favorite Bella picture. Come to think of it, it's my favorite Karloff too! The print is pretty good for a YouTube copy but it loaded a bit slow on my computer. It's worth the wait!
Here's (above) a two-minute clip of Martin Landau reciting "Home, I have no home" for Burton's "Ed Wood" film. YouTube has three versions of this, including Lugosi's own reading of it. All are worth seeing but I only had space for one.
Last but not least, Here's a short clip of Criswell delivering the opening narration for "Plan 9 from Outer Space."
Awesome post, Eddie. I'd love to see you dressed up for Halloween. If you were gonna dress up, what would you be?
ReplyDeleteAMAZING, EDDIE!!!
ReplyDeletehey, what're your plans for Halloween?
Landau made an scarily accurate Bela in that movie. One of Tim Burton's best by far.
ReplyDeleteOn the topic of being excited for Halloween: My girlfriend and I were pondering about how different this year is from all the past ones we have lived. Halloween, one of our favorite holidays, is only one day away but we feel like it might as well have already come and gone. We both work and have classes on that day, we haven't given any thought for Halloween, not enough time. It makes me think, is college really the best years of our lives? I don't know one person in college who is really having a good time. I feel like I would give anything for a 9-5 day job, a stable schedule. It's killing my festive spirit. Do you think college should rob a person of living a stable life, Eddie?
ReplyDeleteOh, and Happy Halloween!
To answer your question, the spook shows of yesterday evolved into the haunted houses of today!
ReplyDeleteHi Eddie
ReplyDeleteJojo, Mike and I watched Dawn of the Dead the other night in honor of the 'ween. Mike hated it, but said you loved it. I can see why! It's a parable of the downfall of civilization. You should do a zombie theory girl post.
See ya
Steve
Thanks Eddie! I've never seen The Raven. This makes me want to get it, if I can.
ReplyDeleteTee hee hee hee! Halloween is one of the most fun holidays. The bummer is I live in a high-rise and the management doesn't allow us to give out candy. :( The fun part of Halloween is watching the little ones dress up and go to your door to get candy. On the plus side, the management holds a party for the little ones and they give out a small bag of candy to them.
ReplyDeleteThe other great thing about Halloween is the cooler temperatures in Pennsylvania (although the weather is schizophrenic right now - yesterday it was normal autumn weather, today it's 70 degrees!) and the classic scary movies, like Psycho.
Thanks for the videos Eddie! The top one was cool- I drew the bat I saw in it- it was really funny looking hahahaha.
ReplyDeletejennifer,
ReplyDeleteYou can just open the window of your high rise and shoot small pieces of candy from an air rifle. They can't stop anything that's in the air.
Halloween? Meh, my mom said it was Satan's holiday. I'm indifferent, but I do eat alot of candy around these times, to make up for not having turkey during thanksgiving last month.
ReplyDeleteMax, I completely agree with you about college/university. Nobody in our generation can afford the "leisure to be wise." We all have to work to pay off higher exorbitant loans and tuition. We're the most overbooked generation of all time.
I hope it'll get better after we graduate and get jobs...but then again I'm a pessimist.
Nico: If I had time I'd get a black jacket and elongate the sleeves so they're each about 6 feet long. Inside the sleeve I'd hold a wooden stick with a white glove on the end and that would be my new forearm and hand. Now THAT would be a costume!
ReplyDeleteHow about you? Do you have a costume?
Max, Jorge: A really interesting subject! Let me return to this when I'm not so rushed!
Steven: I love haunted houses too! We need both!
Jennifer: A high-rise? Do you have one with floor to ceiling windows facing the street? I love windows like that!
Kali: Thanks! I wish I could put up more Halloween stuff!
Steve: Zombies? Hmmmm. Let me think on it.
if anything, I'm probably going to be Doctor Who.
ReplyDeleteEddie, i'm going to be in town next week!!
Yeah you picked the best of the best Ed Wood!!!!!!
