SOME UNCLE EDDIE PHOTOS

I'm kinda busy tonight so I'll have to put up Mike's pictures tomorrow. I think you'll find it worth the wait. Meanwhile here's some Uncle Eddie photos taken in the backyard of my first house. John needed some pictures so he could try to sell me to TV as a cartoon show host.

  1. Nice! Did the people found you to be cartoon show host potential?

  2. You should wear that outfit more often! Red is definitely your color, Eddie.

  3. Sam: Did they like me? Nope, at least not in this universe. In a parallel universe I no doubt became famous, snubbed all my friends, let it go to my head, and died a rich and lonely drunk. In this universe I continued to be my struggling but happy self.

  4. Kali: Thanks! And talking about colors, that picture of you in red glasses with the weird lights is one of the best blog portraits I've ever seen. How did you take it?

I'm glad that's the real one! But seriously, a bow-tie here and there- spiffy!

With high-powered lights and cellophane! I'd love to take some of you with some spiffy colors!

Spiffy is the word of the week!

  9. Oh, if only there was a real Uncle Eddie Cartoon Show. There would be no war, no civil unrest, no cutting in line. People would even stop urinating in public places, I'm sure of it.

Where did you get those togs, Eddie? I want that hat. It reminds me of pancakes.

That John K is a rascal. I wonder how much he was hoping to get from the sale.He probably needed to make some fast cash to support his cartoons addiction and had already sold both his grandmothers to the circus.

  11. Oh Uncle Eddie those pics really made me laugh! I'm glad I wasn't drinking any coffee when I was looking at them. Otherwise, I would have been sending you a bill for a new laptop! :)

I've been having a really bad week, and I really needed the laugh...

    Uncle Eddie, I love you.

If you do get that show, I'd totally watch! What Network is he pitching it to?

Don't fret, Anonymous. Your heartburn is due to a steady diet of spam. You'll feel better after you've had a good colon-cleansing.

  15. Nuthin' like a good phallic necktie joke to sell an exec on a kiddie show host!

  16. I remember someone at work showing me a picture of you in this getup, and I thought it was pretty neat. But when I mentioned it to you & asked you about "Uncle Eddie" you were really angry that I'd seen them(hey, it wasn't my fault! gosh darn it), because it was your very own top-secret-idea(which you'd performed for a lot of your old coworkers at Filmation, but anyway). I was crushed.

Now millions and billions all over the internet can see you in vivid color(I only saw a b/w xerox), no chastisment! Well, I'm glad it's all out in the open now and you're okay with it and won't kill anyone who looks upon these graven images. : ) I think Kali could definitely do killer Uncle Eddie portraits, ones that no exec could resist. That pose of hers is tailor-made for U.E., don't you think? I can hear you salivating over those gel lights from here!

  17. Eddie. I would hire you simply as a living lawn ornament if I could afford your fee.

Eddie, when the hell are you gonna slap THE UNCLE EDDIE FILM on YouTube? You'll make up to seven cents from the deal but then all of earth will know Uncle Eddie in his 1980 prime!!!

  20. I love the Uncle Eddie pictures, but I can't shake the image of Mike sitting alone in his darkened garret, hugging his knees and softly singing "Bring on the Clowns" to himself.

It was Mike's big chance for fame and girls throwing themselves at his feet in admiration of his drawings. He could'a had class. He could'a been a contender! He could'a been somebody instead of a bum...

(faint calliope music wafts in on the breeze)

"...bring on the clowns... there ought to be clowns... Don't bother, they're heeerreee..."

    See ya
    Steve

Not for the faint of heart

  21. Steve! It's "SEND IN the clowns"! Cripes! Some archivist you are!

Say...wait one minute here. Ohhhh, I get it. The old reverse-psychology trick. Sure, like you don't know the lyrics. Like you don't love that song. Like you don't long for clowns to be sent in. Nice try! You almost had us fooled...

  22. Jenny: Holy Cow! I'm sorry if I gave you grief over simply seeing a xerox. It sounds like I did to you what Ray Bradbury did to me.

Tom: YouTube? Aaaaargh! let me think about that!

Spizz: I got the hat and tie from a fun shop and John and Lynne Naylor gave me the cool jacket and pants. I loved that jacket!

I loved that line about preventing public urination and cutting in line!

Soos: Which network? I don't know.

  23. These are swell, but where's the naked business card??? Your public demands it!

That Uncle Eddie jacket and pants may have come from the Goodwill Industries store that once fronted Sherman Way in Reseda, not far from where John and Lynne used to live. I bought my day-glo orange Bill Blass corduroy sportjacket there for one dollar in 1980, and I still wear it to church and funerals. I think the place is a Korean pork slaughterhouse today. Many of the exteriors of "Boogie Nights" were shot in that seedy neighborhood, in the shadow of what was once Filmation.

Max Ward, I'm still astounded that John K., Eddie, Jenny L. or anyone has the time to run a blog containing fresh material every single day. I haven't done it yet only because I enjoy reading theirs far too much.

    Man, I love that suit!!

  28. Tom: Now that I've been doing it for a while putting the blog up doesn't take much time. I put a two hour limit on it and sometimes I don't need even that.

My rules of thumb: never spell check and never rewrite a sentense more than once. You risk looking pretty stupid when you write that way but the internet is suprisingly forgiving.

  29. Oddly enough, I've seen some rappers (gangsta and otherwise) dress like that. Maybe that could be your career between animation gigs. ;)

  31. I'm still looking for Eddie's naked business card. My wife remembers it (& wonders what kind of people I hang out with when I visit L.A.) and swears that she didn't throw it out.

I'll find it, but when I do - I gotta warn ya, it's plenty frightening. The only thing worse, is if it was scratch & sniff...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Steve: Now you're scaring me.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Eddie - I was just sayin' "It coulda been worse..."

  34. Josh: I'm in a hurry so I could only skim your blog but I like the dad caricatures you did. They're really funny!

  35. hahahaha ... these are brilliant!!!! you look like such a character here .... i want a suite like that!!! ....it'll make for a great halloween costume!!! lol =D
