NEW KATIE DRAWINGS!

Voila! Caricatures (above) of Marlo, Kali and Katie, who also drew these! Click to enlarge! They still won't be as big as they should be but this is the best I could do with the bandwidth I have. I'll put up more soon!Marlo and Katie here (above) (dress designers note...this is the proper height for all dresses in the front)! How does Katie manage to distill so much happiness in a drawing? You could say these are philosophical drawings because they depict a world devoid of stress and conflict. That's the artist's job, to show the rest of us a vision of what the world could could be, to give us something to shoot for. Here's Kali looking infinitely sunny and eager. Notice the great leg and topknot theories! Katie made an interesting choice here. Everytime I've seen Kali she's been upbeat and enthusiastic but, being human she must have the whole range of positive and negative emotions that the rest of us do and Katiie must have seen that negative side at some time or other. Katie wisely chose a single emotion to represent Kali. She chose happiness. She didn't choose it because it's a convention of caricaturists , but because it represented a side of Kali that appealed to Katie's own idealism, to her own vision of a better world...at least that's what I think happened.

  1. I'm really impressed by these and the past Kali drawings.
Plenty of people can draw caricatures, but what Katie has drawn here is very obviously, totally, in your face without a doubt, Marlo, Kali, and herself! And when disected they are made up of very few lines!
    So simple but VERY effective.
    Good show!

And dig those crazy legs on Kali at the bottom!

  2. Hee hee, glad you liked them Eddie and Corbett, and thanks for the nice words! Actually, the profile of Marlo in the first drawing is probably my most favorite thing I've drawn in a long time. Marlo and Kali are really fun to draw!

Super nice! What I love about those is, they instantly put you in a better mood, an improved frame of mind. They are definitely girly, in all the good ways girly things are... girly.

    And girls are cool.

  10. Awesome-ness!

For anyone who doesn't know Katie personally - she's just as funny as she is talented, and cute-as-a-bug, to boot!
Her drawings are more than brilliant; they're life-affirming. That's the highest praise I could give any artist.

  11. I always liked Katie's girl drawings. Her girl drawings are very cheerful - they do make the viewer smile. I think Corbett touched upon another point about Katie's drawings that is true - if she is doing a caricature of someone, you can tell who she's trying to sketch, and she does it in the most flattering way.

Her sketches are the kind of artwork that I would love to put in a little girl's room (if I had children and they were girls). Heck, I would hang some of those drawings in my office or in my den!

Katie, if you are reading this, you should start selling your work again...

  12. Thanks for posting these Eddie!

I agree with Jennifer, Katie should be selling merchandise! T-shirts, coffee mugs, images to hang in the office or den...

It's a real treat to have images around that make you smile.

  18. Hee hee, you guys are nice. And you made me blush, Mike!!

Corbett- I'm not sure why I like that drawing so much...I guess it sort of captures the way Marlo looks to me more than the other ones I did. She gets this super eager expressions sometimes and it's really cute and funny!
