Here's a quick sketch I did while leaning outside my car window. All the time I was driving there were great cloud formations but I couldn't get my hands free to draw. What a pity; no record will ever exist of the flottila of battleships chasing the runaway amoebas or the indian bracing himself to get hit with pies. Finally these came along, the caterpillar with a bonnet and the people in the school bus throwing dogs and cats out the window. It was too good to pass up! I pulled over to the shoulder and drew fast with cars whizzing by only a few feet from my paper.Here, to fill out the post, is Jerry Lewis's famous elevator scene from "The Errand Boy."

Thanks Fellers :) I remember a Jerry lewis comic book from DC where he needed to be saved by Batman and Robin.
I LOVE JERRY LEWIS!!!! and his outrageously loud quotes and goofy expressions. He and Jim Carrey influenced my life a whole lot! :)

ReplyDeleteTHANK GOD someone other than myself sees these sorts of things in the clouds...I would describe to my kids what I was seeing and they must think IM nutty...Eddie, I TOO have paused to make quick sketches of cloud formations! never a caterpillar in a bonnett though - Fantastic imagination!
ReplyDeleteBy the way...as a kid, I would see strange images in the swirling patterns on the wood-paneling wall boards in my parents 1970's house!

I remember seeing Paul McCartney's image in the wall...I had to go as far as tracing the shapes to prove to my family i wasn't nuts! I also remember seeing a smurf and various animals!
Even though his off-screen rep isn't that great, Jerry Lewis is a master on-screen and on stage!
ReplyDeleteOne of the best experiences that I had was watching Jerry Lewis in Damn Yankees on Broadway about 10-11 years ago. While the other actors were mediocre at best, he owned that play. The audience had a fantastic time, and it showed in a musical number that they wrote in the play especially for him.

ReplyDeletehey, I draw from clouds too. Say Eddie, do you go out to draw people? If so, how do you prevent them from noticing you're drawing them? I was at the library once and started drawing two girls who were sitting really close to me and i'm pretty sure they noticed it. One of them went to the cooler and when she came back and passed behind me i made no attempt to hide my doodles. Then she sat, wrote something on a piece of paper and passed it to her cute friend. I'm sure it was written "that psycho is drawing us". I probably couldn't hide my staring, i think i'll get some sunglasses.

I wonder if Jaques Tati was influenced by The Errand Boy? Playtime (1967) seems to have the same tone as that scene of Lewis in the elevator.
