HOT PROSPECTS AT "MATCH.COM"
I got a great comment from Cynthia where she talked about both of us doing a parody of the match.com ads that are all over myspace right now. I looked up the ads and they were great! Match.com is now one of my favorite companies!
I can't believe how smart these ads are! They're funny, so they're viral, and they sell the product like crazy! It was a genius idea to get the customers to make short, silent films of themselves. How many times have you seen somebody who looked great with the volume down and who came off like a gorilla with the volume up? Let's face it, it's no accident that romantic film stars are always silent types!
When you speak, even if it's just a few words, you reveal your culture, income level, personality, education, sexual experience, philosophy...everything! There's bound to be something in there that's a turn-off to the person you're trying to impress. Better to sell yourself silently, and that's what the geniuses at match.com do!
Anyway, here's (above) my fake highlight reel of match.comers pitching themselves. Many thanks for the great idea, Cynthia!
I'd date you.
ReplyDeletePisser, you crazy bugger.
ReplyDeleteMy mum loved it!
Youre a genius. I'd like to see the spoken interviews with these swinging singles as well.
ReplyDeleteI'D DATE ALL 30 OF YOU! I can't choose!
ReplyDeleteThe satire in your version is so Kovacs-perfect, I think Match.com could actually use it for their online ads and broadcast commercials. Nothing like humor to sell a product.
ReplyDeleteI almost had a crush for a couple of days on one of the girls in the silent online Match.com ads, I guess that means the ad works?
Hey Eddie'
ReplyDeleteHow have ya been?
I drew a cool caricature of you! :)

What do ya think? :)
Jesse
Where do you have the time to put this together?
ReplyDeleteIt's like watching a Ernie Kovacs skit. Especially with the music.
Good to see they fixed your Mac, Eddie! I especially love the music.
ReplyDeleteWhere's Cynthia's video?
- trevor.
holy cow. that first girl made me old man wheeze. old man wheeze with laughter!
ReplyDeleteMy oh my. A major sector of our culture that I knew nothing about until this morning. My education continues. Hilarious parody, Eddie!
ReplyDeleteHahahaha! THANKS for doing this Eddie, you're a real peach! And also interesting that you were mentioning the ads are silent...in a way you are right, that adds to the intrigue of "what is SO interesting that she is THAT into it..etc etc"
ReplyDeleteI just think they're colossally stupid!
I need to get a couple of "props" before I do mine. I need to get a wig and a few other things as I have an idea for a character I want to do. Thanks again and I'll get to work on mine as soon as I get the goodies I need.

WOW!! GENIUS!!
ReplyDeleteWhy the hell aren't you on TV???
I met my husband on Match.com!! No Lie!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't even imagine the faces you must make in bed, Unc' ;)
ReplyDeleteUncle Eddie that's awesome, I like that little "Continental" bit you did half way through, classic.
ReplyDeleteThe funniest for me are the really vacant and bewildered ones - and the music is lovely.
ReplyDeletei actually met my wife through yahoo. not as scandalous or spicy as the lurid match ads. actually, i hate when people ask how we met because it's such a boring story. for awhile we told people that there was this baby tied to the train tracks, and the train was coming, and we accidentally bumped heads trying to save the baby. the rest is history. unfortunately, we forgot the baby, but we have a good feeling about li'l huey.
ReplyDeleteI like the Jules et Jim music and its a very funny video
ReplyDeleteKelly: I went to your site to see what you've been doing lately and was surprised to surprised to see the references to "Schoolism." It's an interesting concept, but it's a bit pricey. Do the people who put it together make much money at it?
ReplyDeleteHorns, Kelly: You guys found your wives/husbands on the net? That's great! The internet's a great way to cast a wider net.
Hryma: 'Am still a fan of your amazing sculptures!
Kali: Thanks a million! I wrote a graduation post for you...it's for the post above this one!
Jesse: I looked up the picture! Thanks, and I'm glad to see that you're out there doing stuff!
ReplyDeleteKellie: Thanks, and thanks doubly for recommending my old post about Cicero on your site. When I wrote that I wondered if anyone except Lester, who's a professional philosopher, would read it.
That Cicero post was brilliant. I read a little Cicero for pleasure when I was young, but I don't remember him ever being that much fun!
ReplyDeleteAh, the many faces of Fitzgerald.
ReplyDeleteKeep'em coming.
