I'm always interested to see what cartoonists hang on their walls. Usually it's cartoons and paintings. Sometimes it's music and film posters or, if the walls are dominated by the cartoonist's significant other, stately pictures of roses or horse-drawn carriages. My walls are mostly masks and cartoon cels. The rest tend to be faces, why I don't know. Here's a few that I either have framed up on the wall or am thinking about putting up.
That She May Be A Bag of Trouble is in the bathroom isn't it? I'm glad Mike, and some others I've met, decorate their bathrooms. People tend to brush off the bathroom in terms of making it fun. GOOD JOB MIKE.
ReplyDeleteI remember staring at that Banjo player's face for hours, hahah. He's amazing.
Is the second picture of Dizzy Gillespie? It looks like him, but it lacks his famous bent trumpet.
ReplyDeleteI love the dog pic. I just want to rub my face up against his tongue.
ReplyDeleteI miss my dog...
I know a guy who looks like Mr Banjo, only fatter.
ReplyDeleteThere's a must have item for you, Mr. Fitzgerald, in an obscure, low print-run fumetti mag from the early sixties called Fooey, which attempted to capitalize on the success of Mad. It's filled with this all but vanished sort of goofing, odd fellows in drag and homespun make-ups, truly depraved and right up your alley, judging from your own homespun antics and this post. Fooey.
ReplyDeleteDiz bent his horn accidentally. He liked it and kept it that way ever since.
ReplyDeleteMr. Banjo looks like Sterling Holloway.
That photo is indeed Dizzy, before his weight gain.
ReplyDeleteLove those pictures, Eddie. Looks like we have some of the same idols, not too surprizingly.
ReplyDeleteEddie...If you want to see some amazing real life modern characters, rent a movie that came out recently called "The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters". It's about an average guys quest to achieve the highest score for Donkey Kong. You will get a kick out of it, and the possibilities with what could be done in cartoon form with the characters is limitless.
ReplyDeleteEddie - this is unrelated to your post but I thought you might find it interesting ... look what this artist has done with traditional mediums but incorporating computers and pixels - I want this one on my wall at home! Have you seen this guys stuff?

Ukulele: Wow! Beautiful! Imagine a whole wall like that!
ReplyDeleteCraig: Thanks for the tip! I'll look out for it!
Lester: Hi Lester! Good to hear from you! I'll have to check out your blog to see what you've been up to recently.
Rudy: Thanks for the tip about Fooey! I didn't even know it existed til you mentioned it. Alas! I searched the net in vain for samples of the inside.
ReplyDeleteI would only be too glad to send it to you, (it's wasted on me).
ReplyDeleteIs there a bar where you get your mail?
Rudy: You mean send me the original!? Wouldn't you rather send a scan and keep the original? It might be valuable someday!
ReplyDeleteGot two copies and think it'll only get chalked-up to effluvia.
ReplyDeleteEasier to slip in an envelope than to scan pages, and it t'would be an honor to contribute to your creative life. I could send it c/o your offices, wherever you might recieve.
Perhaps I'm coming off strangely generous-:"beware of crackpot bloggers bearing gifts"... not my intent. Sorry if this was embarrassing.
ReplyDeleteI never noticed the exploded gum-pimples on the mad cover before. Gum pimples have gotta hurt. My girlfriend had a nostril pimple once which almost corked the hole entirely, then it went green and eventually exploded. All over three days and nights while on a nonstop bus across Canada.
ReplyDeleteOh, and Eddie, you prolly found out already, but the 3d cat walk cycle on brew was faked by O'Reilly. Someone posted his explanation in the comments.
hi eddie!
ReplyDeletei loved this post, so as a good follow up on a similar topic i found a great site you must see, and hopefully blog about... enjoy!

Rudy: Thanks a million! I'll ask Steve Worth if it's OK for me to get it at the ASIFA Hollywood Archive office. If nothing works out then I'm still very, very grateful for the offer!
ReplyDeleteGavin: Yeah, I noticed after I posted. I still admire O'Reilly for giving us a glimpse into the near future. You know somebody's going to do that for real soon.
Crolyss: Holy Mackerel! What a useful site! Looking at those faces made me want to draw! Thanks much!
I like the old lady in the chair. And in response to your comment to me, "I would be freakin honered and flattered beyond words!" I tried to send that message to your email, but it didn't work, cuz I was responding to a blog comment.
ReplyDeleteOkay-look for it there (ASIFA) certainly they can hold an innocuous manila envelope for illustrious Eddie!
ReplyDeleteRudy: Thanks a million! Gee, I still haven't talked to Steve. I better get on that!
ReplyDeleteAaron: Thanks! I'll put it up soon!
The Freddy Morgan album sleeve is awesome. Reminds me of some of the faces Buddy Hackett pulled.
