You gotta give it to David. He had trouble breaking into the industry at first so he hunkered down and studied cartooning and animation and now he's turning out cool drawings like these. I got these from David's blog, cartoondavid.blogspot.com.
Sorry I had to reproduce these so small. A bandwidth problem again. Click to enlarge. I only wish I could have included the hilarious commentary that went with these.
I'm not much into clubbing (bars or baby seals). But, I was in a 7-11 about a week 1/2 ago and saw a very sketchable individual. He was wearing swimming trucks, a bright orange life jacket and pink waterwings. And he was too drunk/stoned/stupid to even string one sentence together.
I was thinking about sketching this goon and putting it up on my blog much like David Gemmill has done but somehow I didn't. Maybe someday.
Yeah, I'm lovin' his trendies skecthes as well. B)
Very insightful-I too have noticed the "vacuum anus" phenomenon-young ladies so thin their butt cheeks don't even meet.Tragic. Good character studies, kind of like Bakshi's old stuff. It's good to see someone creating new stereotypes.(my own opinion: there's nothing wrong with stereotypes, as long as they are based on truth, and truth can only be arrived at through observation and experience,so don't be afraid to get out and live life, it's your sacred duty as an artist.)
By citing "Bakshi's old stuff" you presumably mean the character designs drawn by Bob Taylor for "Coonskin", done before he allegedly found Jesus? John K. did some great character designs for Bakshi's "Mighty Mouse" but the two styles aren't really that similar.
Well actually anonymous, I'm going a little further back, for earlier more personal films like "Heavy Traffic",and "Hey Good Lookin". Bakshi used to be a very good character artist himself, many, many years ago.
hahah thanks for posting these and sharing them with your loyal fans eddie! don't sweat that stuff about the description. I didn't think it was condescending, i thought it was a joke like a dramtic backstory. Either way no big deal at all.
I hope you put up some more of your own drawings(like ones in theory chair were hilarious and awesome) soon when you have time. I am a daily reader of your blog and always look foward to your posts.

I would love David's sketches if they didn't resemble me so much facially. *sigh*
david is fantastic, all around
David's drawings are hilarious! I can see the "teasing" in the drawings. I can see these characters getting fleshed out into a cartoon series.
These are cool!

Jorge: David isn't in any trouble, he's doing just fine. I think I gave a wrong impression with the way I began the piece.
Very nice style...
