Here's (above) a technique I haven't seen before. The pumpkin is stripped of all it's skin and the pulp is sculpted by itself. When it's lit with a candle the face is eerie and luminous.Elsewhere on the page the black pumpkin is a nice reminder that pumpkins can be painted. The green cabbage head below is interesting. It seems that early Halloween theorists toyed with the idea of using vegetables other than pumpkins to represent the holiday.

You're right...the illuminated pumpkin is frightening. That does look scary.
The painted pumpkin and the pumpkin with the drawn face actually had me laughing. The painted pumpkin is funny in a sick and twisted sort of way, and the drawn face is funny because it looks like the person who did that pumpkin really didn't want to put the effort into carving it, but they wanted to get into the spirit of Halloween.

Jennifer: I included the cyclops and banana horn pumpkins even though there was only slight work done on them. I thought the ideas were interesting even if the execution was lacking.

Ha ha! I LOVE the evil pumpkin with the hapless baby pumpkin in its jaws. I wish I'd made that.
Halloween is my favorite holiday. What's not to like? Costumes, free candy, and no useless gifts exchanged, or lifelong seething resentments ready to unleash themselves after the second visit to the punch bowl.
What's that Brussels sprout pig head object doing in the mix? It doesn't look very pumpkin-ish to me.

Amorous cabbage? With leetle bow-ties? OH MY YES. Man, all of this nostalgia is getting to me...I'm gonna try and carve my first pumpkin in years this weekend. I really want to try something in a wood-cut style, with that luminous pulp technique.
