SIDEBAR FUNNIES

Just scroll down. You'll see it!

Sorry if downloads have been slow lately. I didn't know I had a problem with that til John told me about it a few days ago.  The blog downloads quickly enough on my computer, but maybe being the host gives me an advantage. Can I ask you guys: is everybody here experiencing slow downloads?  Maybe John's the only one. Maybe a moth crawled into his machine and bit a transistor. Aaargh! I'll have to check the file sizes on the sidebar pictures.

A question for Photoshoppers: when I resize and resample a picture down on Photoshop, and save it at a low kb (including "for web devices"), how come the same picture appears on Blogger at a much higher kb? Am I doing something wrong?

As long as you have Resample Image checked, you're doing it correctly. Blogger may be resizing it: http://labnol.blogspot.com/2007/01/do-you-use-blogger-for-uploading.html

Great joke, well executed.

Too bad Woody Allen told it at the start of Annie Hall.

Hi Eddie, regarding your Photoshop question, I would just make sure that the files you're uploading to blogger are the same ones you're doing the "save for web" on.

For example, if both the original and the "save for web" version are jpegs, and you're not paying careful attention to where the "save for web" versions are being saved to, you could easily mistake the originals for the "save for web" versions.

Regarding your blog load speed, it only takes a couple of seconds to load the page when I visit. I'm on a cable modem.

Rooni: yeah. I wish I'd made his expressions more readable.

Bob: If Woody Allen's was the first to use that joke, then it's more recent than I thought. I got it off an old bubblegum comic, and gum comics don't use any gag that's less than 5,000 years old.

Joe, Mark: Wooow! Thanks for the tips! I'm too sleepy to investigate them now, but I'll see what I can do with them tomorrow!

By the way Mark, thanks again for the terrific job you did on my old title. I'm still very grateful for that. I'm glad you're downloading this stuff okay!

You're welcome. I was sorry to see it go, but I think it's great that you're taking the look of your site into your own hands. Looks like you're having a lot of fun with it.

"I got it off an old bubblegum comic..."

I was gonna say it reminded me of the good old Bazooka comics (I could almost taste the tutti fruitti), but I wasn't sure you wouldn't think this was a criticism. Generally I like old jokes. Or maybe that's just a banana in my pocket.

BTW, my machine is downloading your stuff just fine. John's machine should see a doctor.

It all downloads pretty quick for me

The site looks great and is downloading fine, Eddie. That joke, btw, is told by Woody Allen but introduced as an "old joke." But I like your timing on it, there was more panels added in your version. Usually that'd be a quick three panel gag.

Don Martin did a version of this joke, too! I think everyone's had a pass at it at this point.

Your blog is downloading fine on mine. Nothing appears to be wrong. I hate how Blogger is still giving you a bunch of unneeded crap.

The sidebar funnies were funny ones for sure!

Will the sidebar funnies change every once in a while?

Your blog is downloading fine on my computer, btw.

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! The pictures with the sidebar comic are priceless! I can definitely picture you doing this as a live skit.

I'm not having any problems with downloading the pics, btw.

Brubaker: I'll change it once in a while, but I don't know how frequently yet.

Jennifer: A live skit!? Interesting idea. I'm glad you're you're not getting slow downloads!

Everybody: Many thanks for the feedback on the downloads. It sounds like most people are doing okay. I wonder why john's having trouble. He has a powerful computer with lots of memory, so he should have no problem. Well, the upshot of all this is that I'm more sensitive to the file sizes of pictures that I use.

Joe, Mark: Thanks for the help. It never occurred to me that Blogger might add to the file size at the same time it reduces a picture's dimensions, and I'm more aware now of the importance of saving Photoshop pictures in the correct way.
