MILEY CYRUS AND JOHN K./A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN

http://youtu.be/8yxUlR65E9E
Miley Cyrus's "Bangerz" concert tour opened on Valentine's Day in Vancouver and, to judge from this phone video (below), it must have been something to see.
................

Yikes! Youtube removed the video clip I had above. I was hoping it would show why I liked her in spite of the overly raunchy things she does. She has a sense of humor and  believes in knocking herself out to put on a creative show. Just out of camera range was the animated film John K did as a backdrop.  I saw parts of it while it was being made.  Pret-tee impressive!

Haw! There's the film in the background. Do you see it? It's just behind the giant and dwarf Miley dances with. Kudos to animators Alex and Gabriel.

I wish I knew more about the people who put the show together. The art direction looks spectacular.

Holy Cow! She looks great in costumes.

She even looks good in buck teeth.

John's film is stunningly creative and has to be seen to be believed, but I don't know how fans can do that. It's not a stand-alone music video, it's a backdrop for a band.

For now animation fans will just have to buy a ticket to the show. Here's the schedule for the rest of this month. It looks like it'll come to L.A. on the 20th and 22nd.

Here's the price guide for the concert at the Staples Center in LA. The prices run from $80 for the pink seats to $1900 (!!!!!!!!) for the yellow ones. If you want to meet and greet Miley that'll run you...are you ready for this?... $2660. Yikes! Major concerts like this are unbelievably pricey! I wonder what sitting behind the stage would be like.

I'm not a big Miley fan by any means but that music video John did was cool. I was initally shocked when I heard the news about John working with her and at first thought he had sold out and went against what he was saying about modern music on his blog and that i really wanted to see Cans Without Labels but then realized he's already worked with popular musicians before though most not being as high profile as Cyrus right now.

I would honestly wanna see a Katy Perry, Imagine Dragons, Daft Punk, Lorde, Eminem, and Frank Ocean John K collaboration just to see how those would turn out out of curiousity and because those are more modern musicians that I can tolerate and like believe it or not. John is so great at caricaturing all these kinds of folks.

John K and Miley Cyrus sounds like a weird combo. Perfectly weird.

I remember John's caricatures of her were hilarious.

I don't think I'm a fan of Miley's stuff, I've never heard it and I've never wanted to. But after hearing about this I think I need to take a second look.

Sorry, Eddie, I can't stay I agree with you on this collab. I can't stand Miley Cyrus or any of her music of imagery.

On a more positive note, you gotta check out these cool mugshots of prostitutes from 1940s Montreal:

Wonderfully eccentric faces!

Jorge: Wow! Those mugshots are terrific! Thanks much.

About Miley, she has a sense of humor, and she feels the reponsibility to put on a big, creative show when she tours. I don't agree with the philosophy in some of her songs, but I like the exhuberant, youthful, artistic flamboyance she projects.

Looks like the video clip ain't there no mo...
Yes Miley has a lot of energy. Was she the inventor of Twerking, or did someone else create that?

Eddie Fitzgerald said...

Kurt: Aaaargh! The video HAS disappeared! I'll try to find a substitute.

Did Miley invent twerking? Good Grief, no! Black girls have been doing that for eons.

The show was a visual feast. Creative Director was Diane Martel and Miley herself. I was fortunate enough to work on the production as production director. All my interactions with Miley were extremely fun and rewarding. I respect her for making her own bold choices and having a commitment to pushing the envelope while taking the piss out of our culture and not taking it all too seriously. She loves to laugh.
The production was super difficult but very fun. I was not a 'fan' of hers and didn't know much about the music, but I am a fan after working with her and I do like most of her music from the Bangerz album.
There were many great animators on the project including Ben Jones, L’amour Supreme, Moment Factory, all under the direction of Geoffrey Lillemon (adult swim) and Diane.

Unknown: Wow! A great comment and, to judge from everything I've heard, congrats are in order for you, Diane Martel, Miley and Geoffrey. It sounds like this show needs to be a movie!
