R. I. P. MICHAEL SPORN

A few days ago I discovered that animation blogger Michael Sporn died, a victim of Pancreatic Cancer. It was a real shock. I knew he'd been away from his blog for a few weeks but I had no idea his problem was life threatening.

I never met Michael but I was a frequent visitor to his blog and over the years I came to think of him as a friend. The news of his passing is very sad. I wish Michael had confided his condition to his readers. He did it in order to spare us, of course, but a person as thoughtful and aware as Michael was...you want to know what he was thinking near the end.

Anyway, the man will be greatly missed.

Like you, I'm a long time visitor of Michael Sporn's blog. I always enjoyed reading his thoughts on animation and found them to be very educational.

I knew something was up when he hasn't posted in few weeks, but his death was a true shock for me.

R.I.P.

I should have suspected something when he said he was dealing with some weird stuff but I was generally growing more disillusioned by how a lot of the animation blogs don't post as much anymore at the time too while other subjects seem to be have blogs that post more than ever no matter what the circumstances. I was really hopeful he would get better and get back to posting regularly.

Hey Eddie. Thanks for posting about Michael. I would see him at numerous animation related events, and I figured something was going on health-wise. Unfortunately, I did not get to know him that well, but I am thankful for our many brief conversations. He seemed to know of, and to have worked at one point with just about everyone. It would blow my mind.

Bravo. He was deeply impressed by your blog, and I'm sure you would have had high times if you'd been able to meet in person.

Brubaker, Roberto, Robert, Anon: Thanks for the thoughts about Michael. I'm still too depressed to talk much about it.

It's true that a number of interesting blogs have folded or are posting on a reduced schedule now. Why is that?

This blog should pick up in the days ahead. I've just had a lot on my plate in recent weeks.

Eddie - I too am still in a funk about Michael's passing. I'm not an animator (just a fan) but visited his splog all the time so I felt I got to know him through his writing, much like I've come know you through your blog.

Better days ahead. Better living through humor and animation! Go Eddie!!

I really enjoyed his blog. You can tell he was a kind person and loved the art form. I'm glad they are going to maintain his Splog.
